Vietnamese Consumer Confidence at 5-year High: Nielsen

Vietnamese consumer confidence reached a five-year high of 117 in the second quarter of this year, according to the latest Consumer Confidence Index released by global information and measurement firm Nielsen.

The higher score has helped Vietnam become the fifth most optimistic country in the world, after the Philippines (with the score of 130), India (128), Indonesia (121) and the United States (118), due to Vietnamese consumers' optimistic perception of personal finance and immediate spending intention, Nguyen Huong Quynh, managing director of Nielsen Vietnam, said on Thursday.

The latest index also showed that Vietnamese consumers are no longer the world's most avid savers with 63 percent putting their idle money into savings, after Thai (with the savings rate of 69 percent), Singaporean and Indonesian.

In the second quarter of this year, top five concerns of Vietnamese consumers remained the same as the last quarter of last year, namely job security, health, work/life balance, the economy, and the parents' welfare and happiness.
